PromptPerfect Alternatives (2026): What to Use Now It's Gone

PromptPerfect closed on September 1, 2026. Here are the live replacements, what each costs, what's different, and how to pick one in five minutes.

The short answer: PromptPerfect is gone. Its own site says that after Elastic bought Jina AI in October 2025, the product "will no longer be available after September 1, 2026" (PromptPerfect). If you want a paste-and-improve tool like it, the closest live options are PromptBuilder, PrompTessor, The Prompt Index and PromptSaver, which is our own product. If you were using its API or auto-tuning from code, look at Promptfoo or DSPy instead.

How to choose in five minutes

  • You pasted a prompt and wanted a better one back. Try PromptSaver and PromptBuilder on the same real prompt, then send both results to your AI. Pick whichever answer you'd actually use.
  • You want it to ask you questions first. PromptBuilder's optimizer asks up to three clarifying questions before it rebuilds a prompt. PromptSaver doesn't ask; it leaves labeled [blanks] for you to fill in.
  • You care what your AI use costs. PromptSaver shows the cost of each prompt and names the cheapest model at Anthropic, OpenAI and Google that does the job well. PromptBuilder's site doesn't mention cost or model picks.
  • You want ready-made templates. AIPRM has a large community library. PromptSaver's prompt library is smaller and shows a recommended model and cost on every prompt.
  • You make images. PrompTessor reports covering image and video prompts. PromptSaver is built for text.
  • You used the API. Choose Promptfoo to test prompts or DSPy to tune them. Neither is a paste box, and both expect you to write some code.

How each one differs from PromptPerfect

PromptPerfect let you choose a target model, rewrote the prompt, and offered tools for comparing models side by side and serving prompts through an API. Nothing we checked replaces all of that at once, so it's worth deciding which part you actually used.

PromptBuilder

A workspace for generating, refining, testing and saving prompts. It keeps a version timeline and can apply saved instructions about your voice and context. The free plan is a one-time 5 prompts, so you'll know quickly whether you like it, and paid plans run $9, $19 and $49 a month (PromptBuilder). The $49 "Unlimited" plan may be limited after 12,000 credits.

PrompTessor

Scores prompts and rewrites them, and reportedly covers text, image and video. Treat any quality score as a starting point, ours included: a score is a tool's opinion, and the real test is the answer you get.

The Prompt Index

Rewrites a prompt for a chosen AI and marks each change, which is useful for learning. The free plan is small and, by its own account, it has no browser extension.

AIPRM

Worth knowing about, but it's a different kind of tool. It gives you templates inside ChatGPT and Claude and doesn't rewrite your own prompts.

PromptSaver

Our product, so judge it the same way as the rest. Paste a prompt and you get a rewrite, what it costs, and the cheapest good model at each company. Free accounts can run a side-by-side quality check to see whether the rewrite actually gets a better answer. It's a poor fit if you need image prompts, an API today, or a team workspace; our Business plan isn't open yet.

Move your prompts over

  1. Find your best prompts. Look through your chat history, notes and any PromptPerfect export.
  2. Pick the five you use most. Don't migrate everything. Old prompts are usually written for models you no longer use.
  3. Run each one through your new tool, then send the old and new versions to your AI and compare.
  4. Save the winners somewhere you own. My prompts is one option, and our guide compares the rest. A plain document works too.

This matters beyond PromptPerfect. Custom GPTs and Gemini Gems are going away too, so anything you've stored in one company's product is worth backing up.

Frequently asked questions

Did PromptPerfect really shut down?

Yes. Its site states that following Jina AI's acquisition by Elastic in October 2025, PromptPerfect "will no longer be available after September 1, 2026."

What's the best free PromptPerfect alternative?

For regular use, PromptSaver's free plan allows 10 optimizations a day, the most of the rewriting tools in the table above. If you're comfortable with code, Promptfoo and DSPy are free and open source.

Is there a PromptPerfect alternative with a Chrome extension?

PromptBuilder has a free one for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and AIPRM works inside ChatGPT and Claude. PromptSaver for Chrome is a side panel for the same three.

Do prompt optimizers actually help?

They help most when your prompt is missing something: the goal, the facts, the format or the length. They help least on a prompt that's already specific, and a rewrite can make things worse. Always compare the answers before trusting one, and see what the AI companies themselves advise.

How we checked this

We read PromptPerfect's notice, PromptBuilder's home and pricing pages, and The Prompt Index's comparison on November 2, 2026. We couldn't load PrompTessor's pricing page directly, so its figures come from that dated comparison and are marked. We haven't run a controlled test across these tools; the choice above comes from what each one says it does. PromptSaver is our product, and nobody paid to be listed.
